The energy crisis is one of the hottest topics in the world. In this context, IT service centers, as an innovative industry, also obtain more and more attention on their high energy consumption in daily operation. Much time and efforts are spent on reducing the increasing energy requirements of IT service centers. In this paper, we will give an overview of the potential methods for enhancing the energy efficiency of IT service centers from technical and non-technical aspects. In addition, because of the high energy consumption, the caused CO2 emission is also becoming a concern threatening environment. In this paper, we will also introduce some approaches to build a global CO2 lifecycle model, which is not only bounded in IT service centers, but also extended to their entire industrial chain.
